Meet Franci

The daughter of immigrants, on the other side of the admissions desk.

Franci DaLuz built Rumos because too many families navigate college admissions without anyone in their corner who actually understands how the system works. She is one of them — the daughter of Brazilian immigrants, the first in her family to attend U.S. college — and she has spent twelve years on the other side of admissions desks, watching families struggle with a process no one ever explained to them.

She went on to UMass Boston, then to Oxford as a Gilman Scholar, then to a Ph.D. in education. She has reviewed admissions applications at UMass Boston, Bunker Hill Community College, Salem State, and Newbury College, and was named the 2023 NEACAC Professional of the Year. She partners with MEFA to produce Portuguese-language webinars that reach thousands of Massachusetts families each year.

Rumos brings that experience to your kitchen table.

How we work

What working with Rumos actually looks like.

01

At your kitchen table, with a cup of coffee.

We sit down with the latest report card, the brochure that came from College Board, the letter from your son's guidance counselor — whatever's on the table — and translate it. What matters, what doesn't, what to do next.

02

Before and after a college visit.

We help you prepare the questions to ask, what to look for beyond the campus tour, and which numbers and policies actually matter. Then we debrief afterward — what you saw, what to follow up on, what to ignore.

03

When the financial aid letters arrive.

Spring of senior year is the moment most families discover that "accepted" doesn't mean "affordable." We read the letters line by line, in your language, and help you compare offers, ask the right questions of financial aid offices, and make an informed decision before the deposit deadline.

04

Beyond your family.

We run workshops at high schools, community centers, churches, and employer-organized parent groups — demystifying the college process for groups of families who want to learn it together. In English, Portuguese, or Spanish.

Rumos doesn't replace your school's college counselor — we supplement the work they do. School counselors are doing essential work with limited time and growing caseloads; we work alongside them to give your family the sustained, individualized attention they often can't. We also don't promise admission to a specific college, write your child's essays, or replace the work your family does together.

What we do is make the process clear enough that your family can move through it with confidence.
